As of September 2025, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is now Blood Cancer United. New name. Same mission. Blood Cancer United is at the forefront of the fight to cure blood cancer. Since Blood Cancer United’s inception in 1949, we’ve made tremendous strides for the blood cancer community. Some blood cancers can now be cured, and others can be managed as long-term chronic conditions. So, we measure our progress not just by cures, but by all the people who can live longer, more active lives after a blood cancer diagnosis.

Research

We fund the most promising blood cancer research, in countries all around the world, to bring us closer to better treatments and cures.

Patient support

We provided free information, support services, and financial assistance to over 30,000 people last year.

Policy and advocacy

Our nationwide grassroots network of more than 100,000 volunteers advocate for state and federal policies that benefit patients.

Liam 
Age 10

Diagnosis: B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia 

Liam is a resilient and inspiring young individual. In the summer of 2024, at just 9 years old, he was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and began chemotherapy immediately. As of August 2025, Liam officially entered remission and transitioned into the maintenance phase of his treatment, which will continue through October 2026. 

This milestone has been especially meaningful for Liam, allowing him to return to school after missing a full year, reconnect with friends, and rediscover the simple joys of everyday life—like having his hair back and significantly fewer hospital visits. 

Outside of treatment, Liam’s energy and spirit shine through in his many interests. He loves anything related to cars, enjoys active games that involve running, and has a passion for board games, graphic novels, and building with Legos.
