I have been given the opportunity of a lifetime to help more than 1.3 million Americans who are living with blood cancer.
Each year, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) launches its “Visionaries of the Year” fundraising campaign, and this year I was honored to be nominated as a candidate. I am writing today to ask for your support of LLS’s mission in its efforts to find cures for blood cancers and to assist patients and families as they battle this disease.
From March 20th to May 30th, 2025, our team goal is to raise $200,000 which will go directly to LLS in support of its longstanding goal: a world without blood cancers. If we raise $50K by May 30th, we can connect our team’s name to an LLS-funded research portfolio to honor our efforts to help people with blood cancers.
Like many of you, I have witnessed first-hand the debilitating effects that leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma can have on those who suffer from these blood cancers, and on the friends and family who care for and nurture their loved ones. I am particularly passionate about finding cures and making it more easily financially accessible to afford the treatments and medications.
I know firsthand the pain of losing a loved one to cancer. On January 18th, 2014, I lost my father to Stage 4 Lung Cancer. He was born and raised in Navasota, Texas, and spent his life-giving back- helping rebuild churches, sharing his talents as a master gardener, and donating to numerous charities, including those supporting cancer research. His kindness and generosity left a lasting impact, and after losing him, I made a commitment to honor his legacy by getting involved, raising awareness, and helping families afford life-saving treatments.
In 2022, my world was shaken again when my mother was diagnosed with Myeloma. She is the sweetest, kindest woman you will ever meet- always putting others first, especially her children and grandchildren. We are beyond grateful to God that she is still with us today.
To honor both my mother and father, I have joined the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in their mission to fund critical cancer research, provide financial assistance to families, and support those fighting blood cancers.
Honored Hero Story: I am fighting to end blood cancer in honor of kids like Evan (pictured left). Evan was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at age 4. And after the first 30 days of treatment, unfortunately there was still detectable leukemia in Evan’s bone marrow, and he had a change in his course of treatment. He was selected for a clinical trial where he received continuous infusion of this immunotherapy through a backpack for 28 days. After 1 year and 1 month of frontline treatment, Evan was placed in maintenance and got back to school and was thriving! Evan celebrated the end of his treatment with LLS, ringing the bell August 23rd, 2024.
Now more than ever, we need to take initiative and shine light on this scary and deadly disease. I am fighting for kids like Evan! Will you help me make an impact?
LLS is an organization that is making an impact with the dollars it raises, and I’m proud to be associated with LLS.
