"Hi Jessica- As you may or may not know, I lost my wife Karen to cancer a little over three years ago. In her particular case it was breast cancer, but I think anyone who has lost someone to cancer shares a certain camaraderie. Good luck with your run. I am very sorry that you missed out on so many years with your mother, but I have to imagine that she'd be proud of what you're doing in her memory."
