Battalion assignments help ensure a safe, organized, and enjoyable event for everyone. Learn how battalions are assigned, review important deadlines, and find information about requesting a battalion change.

Important dates

February 28, 2027

Fundraising deadline for battalion placement

Donations received by this date will count toward battalion assignments based on fundraising totals.

March 9, 2027

Battalion assignments posted

Battalion assignments will be available on the Firefighter Stairclimb website.

March 14, 2027

Battalion Change Request deadline

All Battalion Change Requests must be submitted by this date.

No requests will be accepted after March 14, 2027.

March 18, 2027

Elite 35 assignment

Elite 35 participants will be assigned to Battalion 5.

How battalions are assigned

Battalion assignments are based on a combination of previous climb performance, fundraising, participant status, and event logistics.

Battalion 1

Overall fastest 50 climbers from the 2026 Firefighter Stairclimb (Fire and Open Divisions).

Participants must meet the $500 fundraising minimum by February 28 to be assigned to this battalion.

 

Battalion 2

Overall fastest climbers who placed 51–100 in the 2026 Firefighter Stairclimb (Fire and Open Divisions).

    • Participants must meet the $500 fundraising minimum by February 28 to be assigned to this battalion.

Overall fastest climbers who placed 51–100 in the 2026 Firefighter Stairclimb (Fire and Open Divisions).

    • Participants must meet the $500 fundraising minimum by February 28 to be assigned to this battalion.

Battalion 3

Overall fastest 50 female climbers from the 2026 Firefighter Stairclimb.

Participants must meet the $500 fundraising minimum by February 28 to be assigned to this battalion.

 

Battalion 4

Blood cancer survivors and survivors of any cancer.

If you are currently in treatment, you are a survivor.

If you prefer not to climb in this battalion, complete the Battalion Change Request Form.

If you did not identify yourself as a survivor during registration but would like to climb with other survivors, complete the Battalion Change Request Form.

 

Battalion 5

Elite 35, Legacy participants, and Ambassadors. Learn more about Elite 35

 

Battalion 6

Top fundraisers in descending order based on funds raised.

 

Battalion 7

Fundraisers in descending order based on funds raised.

 

Battalion 8

Fire Chiefs.

 

Battalions 9 and above

Remaining participants assigned in descending order based on funds raised.

Battalion Change Requests

Need to request a different battalion?

Complete the Battalion Change Request Form by March 14, 2027.

Please note:

  • Submitting a request does not guarantee approval.
  • If your request is approved, you will receive an email before Saturday, March 19, 2027.
  • Requests are reviewed based on availability and event logistics.
  • Team Captains with specific team placement requests should work with their Blood Cancer United staff partner before February 28, 2027.
