All participants will be charged a registration fee that will not count towards your fundraising total for incentives. The registration fee is $40 until March 22nd and increases to $50 on March 23rd until event day.
Is there a fundraising minimum?
There is no fundraising minimum, but all Big Climb participants are encouraged to fundraise for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission. In 2022, Big Climb participants raised an average of $600. Set your goal and get started today!
Where do my donations go?
All donations from Big Climb help support the mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society: to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma, and to help improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
When is the fundraising deadline?
To receive a Big Climb Tech T-shirt, you must reach $250 raised prior to or on event day. You also have the opportunity to continue to fundraise after the event to further support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission to cure blood cancer. What is a Climb Master?
An individual who raises $1,000+ will be named a Climb Master, which is one of our VIPs for Big Climb New Jersey. As a VIP, you will have access to the Summit Club after you complete your climb for a special gift and post event hospitality.
What is the age minimum allowed to climb?
The National guidance is 8 years or older to climb, however we are leaving it up to the parents/guardian’s judgement. All children will be required to climb with an adult. All participants will sign a waiver. No exceptions.
How do teams work?
When you sign up as a team, you are signing up to climb at the same time slot. Your team will be assigned a time at random, and we are not taking requests for time slots.
When is my start time?
To avoid congestion, and make sure everyone has room to climb, climbers will be starting in waves. Start times will be available here the week of the event.
Can I change my start time?
No. All start times are final. No exceptions.
Can I register the same day or walk in on event day?
Yes, but you must arrive on site by 10am to be placed in a wave. If you are a member of a team registering same day, there is no guarantee you can climb in the same wave as your team.
What time does the event start?
The event doors will open at 7:45AM with our first wave starting at 8:30AM.
Where should I park?
Parking will be available for participants at the Gateway 3 Building (265 Market St, Newark NJ).
Can I take public transportation to/from the event?
Our event is located across from Newark Penn Station. Please check train times prior to using.
Can I bring anything in the stairwell other than my phone?
A small fanny pack is allowed.
Is there a bag check area provided?
There will be a free bag check area for personal items in the Base Camp area. Bags must be small enough to fit in a regular brown shopping bag.
What time should I arrive?
Plan to arrive 45 minutes prior to your assigned start time. Please take into consideration the time it will take you to find parking.
Where do I line up for my climb time?
Announcements will be made 15 minutes prior to your start time. You will begin lining up in the lobby where the starting line is as well.
How many steps will I be climbing?
Participants will climb 26 floors, totaling 524 steps.
Where are water stops?
There will be one water stop on Floor 11. There is also water for climbers at the finish and when you return to the Base Camp area.
What if I don’t want to climb? Can I still attend?
Anyone is welcome to attend Big Climb New Jersey! If you decide not to climb, you can enjoy the activities happening at the basecamp festival. All participants, regardless of climbing status are required to register and encouraged to fundraise so they can earn our great incentives.
Can I volunteer?
Volunteers make our event successful! Sign up for the time slot that works best for you here.
Can my friends and family come to the event? Where can they wait for me to finish?
Your friends and family are welcome to enjoy our photo booth and “Why I Climb” wall while you are climbing. They may wait for you in the Base Camp on the ground floor. No spectator access will be allowed at the finish.
Will food be available at the event?
Water and light snacks will be available for climbers.?
What happens if it rains?
The event is rain or shine.??
Will I need to walk back down the stairs?
No, there will be an elevator for all participants to go down from the finish once they have completed the climb.
Can I bring my dog?
Only service animals may join us at One Gateway Center.
Are strollers allowed at the event?
Strollers are allowed onsite but will not be allowed on the climb route.?
